Ability Upgrade

Red Covenant offers a dynamic approach to character development, allowing players to enhance their units' combat effectiveness through abilities. These abilities enable units to perform specialized roles on the battlefield, offering strategic depth and diversity in gameplay.

Design Intentions

The core aim is to provide players with opportunities to amplify their units' power beyond mere stat enhancements. This is achieved through a comprehensive ability system that allows for the customization and progression of each unit's skill set.

Ability Kit

  • Player-Controlled Characters:

    • Characters are equipped with a unique set of four abilities, varying in number upon initial unlock based on their Star level.

    • Abilities range in function, including basic attacks, passives, specials, and ultimates, each capable of being upgraded to bolster its effectiveness or add new effects.

  • Enemy Units:

    • Enemy units, designed for PvE encounters, feature up to three abilities.

    • Unlike player-controlled characters, enemies lack a mana system and, consequently, do not possess ultimate abilities.

Unlocking and Leveling Up Abilities

  • Unlocking Abilities:

    • The availability of abilities is directly tied to a unit's Star level, with higher Star levels granting access to more abilities from the outset.

    • No additional currency or actions are required to unlock abilities beyond participating in the Star Up progression system.

  • Increasing Characters’ Stars & Leveling Up Abilities:

    • All abilities begin at Level 1 and can be enhanced through a leveling system tailored to the specific ability type.

    • The impact of leveling an ability varies, introducing increased potency and, in some cases, new effects detailed on each Character page.

Ability and Ultimate Level-Up Costs

  • General Costs:

    • Leveling abilities require a combination of Ability XP Materials (ranging from Tier 1 to 4), Ability Upgrade Materials (Tier 1-4), and, for certain abilities, Ability Mastery Materials for advancements beyond Level 9. Geld, the game currency, is also needed.

    • The materials and costs for leveling abilities are consistent across Basic, Passive, and Special abilities, though the specific requirements may vary between characters.

  • Ultimate Abilities:

    • Upgrading ultimates follows a similar structure but utilizes Ultimate XP Materials and Ultimate Upgrade Materials, in addition to Geld.

The materials and costs associated with leveling up abilities ensure a balanced progression system that rewards player investment and strategic planning. By carefully selecting which abilities to enhance, players can tailor their units to fit their preferred playstyle and combat strategies, reinforcing the importance of abilities in the overarching gameplay experience of Avarik Saga.
